Growth Tracker

Track growth and maturation in young athletes

Hylyght helps coaches, academies and practitioners monitor growth velocity, estimate maturation status, support bio-banding and follow-up where each athlete is in the growth process.

Growth Tracker

Young athletes do not grow and mature at the same speed. By tracking body height and body weight over time, you can identify periods of rapid growth, monitor maturation status and make better decisions for training load, bio-banding and long-term athlete development. Hylyght brings these measurements, insights and reports together in one central environment, with the option to automate data collection through a connected seca device.

Measure

  • Measure body height and body weight at regular intervals during the adolescent growth period.
  • Track athletes consistently between roughly 10 and 16 years of age to build a reliable growth curve.
  • Use manual devices or automate data collection with the connected seca device, so height and weight measurements are stored automatically.

Assess

  • Get instant insight into growth velocity and maturation status based on repeated measurements.
  • Monitor predicted adult height and how each athlete progresses relative to their individual growth pattern.
  • Analyse clear reports for individual athletes, teams and age groups to support interpretation and follow-up.

Guide

  • Adapt training load and content for athletes going through rapid growth.
  • Use maturity information to support bio-banding and create more appropriate training environments.
  • Share clear insights with coaches, athletes and parents to support better long-term development decisions.

Prevent injuries by adapting training load

Periods of rapid growth are linked to a higher risk of growth-related injuries and overload problems in young athletes. By tracking growth over time, coaches and practitioners can adjust training load, adapt training content and provide support that better matches the athlete’s developmental stage. This makes the Growth Tracker especially valuable for organisations that want to reduce avoidable growth-related problems while supporting long-term athlete development.

Why track Growth?

Growth tracking helps practitioners see more than just age group or current body size. By combining repeated height and weight measurements with growth and maturity insights, you can identify when athletes are growing rapidly and when they may need adapted training, closer follow-up or a different deveopment pathway. Hylyght turns these measurements into practical outputs for injury prevention, bio-banding and communication between coaches, athletes and parents.

Prof. Sean Cumming explains the science behind growth-related injuries and why managing the adolescent growth spurt matters in talented young athletes:

Organisations use the Growth Tracker to make growth and maturity visible, to adapt training and to support long-term development decisions.

The Growth Tracker lets us tailor training to each athlete's needs, keeping them injury-free and maximizing their potential. It's a crucial step in retaining young talents and setting a new standard in athlete development.

Michael Krikemans

Our collaboration with Hylyght is a game-changer for how we nurture young talent. We can now truly understand and optimize each player's physical development based on their individual maturity.
